Windrose Plot Lab

A Windrose plot is a graphic tool that is used to view how wind speed and direction are distributed in a particular location. In this blog I will show the typical wind speed and direction for airports on average during different seasons. but first ill show you what a wind rose plot actually is.
From looking at these wind rose plots you can conclude that seasons do have an affect on the speed and direction of the wind and it is quite significant.

Determining the Sun Trajectory

On January 27, 2014 I took down calculations of where the suns shadow fell, the length of it, and the height of the instrument I used to measure it.  In this lab I learned exactly where the sun would fall at a certain time of day and how big of a shadow it can make at different times.  I have created both a table and took a screen shot of the sun at 12 using SunCalc.net.

Willet Science Center Rainfall Volume, Lab 1

When determining the criteria of a great parking lot you need to know how much rainfall it can handle.  According to my calculations, Willet Science Center parking lot at Mercer University can hold up to 101,17794.91 gallons of rain after 2 inches of rainfall.  We need to calculate water volume when designing a parking lot because if it can't handle an average amount of rainfall then the parking lot will flood and cause and overflow of the places all around  it.

Rachel Carson

Rachel Carson was a conservationist and also a marine biologist.  First, she worked on mainly marine biology and wrote pamphlets on conservation and natural resources and edited scientific articles.  She eventually became the Editor-in-Chief of all publications for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  But then Carson's eye was caught by the new fad during her time, pesticides.  She studied and spent years on figuring out the defects in pesticides and eventually wrote the book Silent Spring, which brought attention to all of the environmental problems dealing with detrimental effects of the environment, especially on birds.  The book caused a lot of problems for chemical companies and she accused the chemical industry of spreading disinformation.  Even though she faced a lot of problems coming from the chemical companies claiming false accusations, she caused the reversal in national pesticide policies, which then led to the nationwide ban of DDT and other pesticides.  Because of her motivation and hard work to get Americans to notice what exactly they have been breathing in and consuming, she inspired many environmentalist groups, especially local ones, and then that led to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  After all of her accomplishments she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Jimmy Carter.
